I remember the moment like it was yesterday. In 2010, I was on the verge of a breakdown. I had been working myself to the bone, sacrificing my health; because I was determined to carve out a successful career.
One fateful evening, a caring colleague warned me: "Krystal, be careful about these late working hours! If one day you are down, they will replace you by a Christiane!" I smiled and brushed off his concern, but deep down, his words hit a nerve: Was I really risking my well-being for a job where I could easily be replaced? That night, as I stared at my exhausted reflection in the mirror, I knew I had to make a change.
So I started fresh in a new company. It was a risk, but I knew I couldn't continue down the path of burnout and despair.
This was my chance to redesign a more rewarding lifestyle around everything that I valued but had neglected over the past years: My Faith, Family, Fitness & health, and Friendship. However, two years later, I was falling into the same cycle of fatigue. It hit me hard. At that moment, I realized that if I could be replaced at my job, I was not meant to be replaced untimely in my divine calling as a woman and a leader.
· I prayed God for His promises of peace and life in abundance.
· I sought out systems and plans to mitigate stress at work and at home.
· I sought out coaches and mentors to help develop my leadership skills.
· And I embraced coaching for my mental well-being and to support other leaders in their journey towards a healthier and more serene self.
Slowly but surely, my life began to transform: Within a year, I turned the chronic fatigue around, in the midst of growing responsibilities and performances. And I had been coaching and empowering numerous women on how to lead from within. I learned a valuable lesson, that I eager to share with you: Navigating life's seasons isn't easy, but cultivating the best version of who we are is the ultimate form of wealth and health management.
